Since there is currently no cure for Copper Storage Disease, veterinarians, researchers and universities are partnering together to develop effective options for early detection and treatment for dogs afflicted with this disease.
A full recovery from Copper Storage Disease (copper-induced hepatopathy) is rare. At the very least your dog will need to follow a strict diet, with a dog food free of chelated coppers or copper sulfate. This is the best way of treating young dogs to avoid the accumulation of copper before it becomes problematic. Dogs with severe cases will require long term medication, a special diet and ongoing treatment.
